The annual Limestone County Sheriff’s Rodeo holds a slack day before their main evening event to give riders a chance to qualify for other nearby rodeos and to fill any free spots they may have….at least I’m pretty sure that’s what slack day is all about. All I know for sure is that it’s the only part of this particular rodeo that doesn’t happen after dark. Because of that I wanted to go and create a few portraits of the cowboys in attendance.

Above….Brent Mentz

Above and below….Shane Barratiere….a pretty good cowboy name too if you ask me.

and finally…..Keith Pigue.
Anna and I have always enjoyed watching bull riding. One common thread that seems to run through all the cowboys that do it….they have just a touch of crazy in their eyes. While I was waiting around to photograph one of these guys above one of the cowboys got his spur caught in a rope and was dragged around the arena a few times. It was pretty hard to watch but they eventually broke him loose.
